The Byfield Parish Church Music Committee invites members of the congregation to use their God-given instrumental talents to His glory through special music offerings, based upon these guidelines. The playing of familiar hymns, which call to mind timeless words of faith, praise, and adoration, are especially encouraged.
Compositions by noted Christian composers are also appropriate, especially when a brief introduction reveals to the listeners the selection’s relevance to our faith and the worship experience. Whether spoken or printed in the bulletin, introductions could explain if a particular Scripture inspired the composition, if it is based in Judeo/Christian tradition, or what words may have been penned for the tune. Introductions should be reviewed and approved beforehand by a Music Committee member or the Special Music Coordinator.
Those with a gift for improvisation are urged to create their offerings in a manner that is worshipful and edifying to the congregation, and which directs our attention to a familiar tune or text. If improvising on a less-than-familiar song, a brief introduction is recommended, as described above. Music can be a heart-stirring tool of worship, but in-and-of itself it is not “Christian.” In the church setting, it should speak of matters of faith and glorify our Creator and Lord.
All Special Music participants will work with the Special Music Coordinator to ensure that Byfield Parish Church remains in compliance with CCLI regulations. Information needs to be communicated to the church secretary by noon on the Wednesday preceding your performance.
If you are interested in offering up your instrumental or vocal talents in this format, please contact Special Music Coordinator, Holly Libert.
